Feng Shui and Retail Store
By S.BS. Surendran
Adapting the right Feng Shui is the key to success and when it comes to retail stores and display windows Feng shui does help in attracting prospective customers. In the present days Shopping malls is a common sight in many of the cities and each of the Malls have many retail outlets selling specialized ware but not all of them have the same amount of business turnover. A better Feng Shui energy in a retail space will attract more customers, more sales and a better mood for the people who work in the store.
For many shopping is a weekend activity and time to relax and be with the family while just gazing into the display windows. Actually Shopping is all about an emotional experience as we buy things to make us and our loved ones feel better, in other words, we are shopping for an experience, not just a particular item.
To make the customers feel nice and enhance the special experience of shopping retail stores can adapt some Feng Shui basics to transform the feel of the place into a vibrant energy and creating good Feng Shui. Most importantly, good Feng Shui does not mean decorating with oriental looking items but creating energy that feels good, looks good and works for the purpose of a given space. On a subconscious level we are all attuned to the Feng Shui energy movement and react to it accordingly.
The energy of your store is felt even before customers decide to enter hence stepping outside your store and taking a good, fresh look at your main entrance and your immediate surroundings will give you a clue. Does your outlet stand out and if you were to see your store for the first time, would you come in and is it inviting?
Good energy enhances the feel of your entrance hence a clear presence, which includes a clean, crisp store name, well-lit and fresh window displays, appropriate colors relating to the door direction, building and environment has to be chosen.
Once the customer has stepped in to your store, does his attention get diverted or does it create a feeling of disinterest although you have the best of the products and stocks. The important thing to understand is that you need to create pathways for the Feng Shui energy to flow, you need to direct the energy to create a pleasant experience and draw the customers in, then help them explore by themselves what you have to offer. This means designing several different pathways in your store, not just one straight line from beginning to end, creating several independent areas with different energies
Avoid things like a big mirror directly facing the entrance, open trash can in plain view, exposed electrical cords, boxes, fluorescent ceiling lighting , stale air or strange smells and finally do not make your customers feel overwhelmed with a feeling of “ too many staff” with no breathing space and time to decide on what you want.
Finally try to Spread out the beautiful items, or pair them in unexpected ways. In short, jazz up the store! And let your sales SOAR.
