Feng Shui for Senior Citizens
By S.BS. Surendran
Taking care of the Senior Citizens and extending love and support to them is very much part of the Chinese Culture and it’s the foundation of the Chinese belief. Even Confucianism teachings advocate ‘respecting the elder’s hence `filial piety’ is prevalent in the Chinese society.
In the present times most people would find that they do not have the time to take care of the elders at home due to work or peer pressure. Many Elders may feel neglected, hurt and lonely sitting at home. Sometimes the lonely feeling and age related health problems engulf them and at times they would even behave like a child being stubborn and refusing to co-operate. This is not their fault but to a large extent it’s the contribution from the immediate environment which makes them respond that way.
Keeping the elders happy and giving them love and care is not just part of Chinese culture but it’s the only way any one can show gratitude and thank them for whatever positive contributions they have made in the lives of the younger generation.
From the Feng Shui perspective the home should make the Senior citizen’s feel happy, healthy and balanced. There are many ways one could bring about a change and make the space harmonious but focusing on the health through right Feng Shui would give them comfort and peace.
This ancient Chinese practice of balancing the male (Yang) and female (Yin) energies and the elements of wind, water, fire and earth can bring about great changes in an individual’s life. Such energy and vibes surround us at all times and Feng Shui teaches us how to diminish the negative while enhancing the positive energies in our living space. One area that is greatly benefited through this practice is the health aspect of our lives and Feng Shui health tips can make all the difference to the way you lead a healthy life.
Feng Shui health gives special consideration to the living room and dining room as they play a significant role in deciding our health matters. Placing quartz crystals along with healing stones in the living room can significantly enhance the positive energies and healing vibes of any home. Candles and incense burners are a good way of attracting positive vibes and ensuring a healing atmosphere in your house for all its inhabitants. Amber is especially potent as a healing gemstone and you could try hanging a bead of amber from a light or fan in the centre of the room.
The wall colors for the Senior citizen’s room depends upon many factors like size, shape ventilation, sunlight etc, however as a general thumb rule, if the room is large and airy you can think of using shades of Green which represents wood and compass direction east and is said to enhance growth and vitality, If the room is small then shades of Pink representing fire element and activity would be good. In case the room is narrow you can adapt white which is a neutral color and bring in the colors of Green or pink through décor, furnishings and bed spreads.
