British National Gets Six Years for Ordering Drugs


British national Julian Anthony Ponder (43) was sentenced to six years in jail by the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday for ordering 4.7 kg of cocaine Lindsay June Sandiford smuggled to Bali. Lindsay June Sandiford also a British national had been sentenced to death by the same court.

Chief judge Gunawan Tri Budiono also ordered Julian Anthony Ponder to pay a fine of Rp1 billion or stay three months more in jail if he fails to pay it.

Julian looked relieved upon hearing the verdict which was one year lower than prosecutor Ketur Sujaya had demanded.

Julian’s lawyer, Ary Budiman Soenardi, said he would suggest that his client would not appeal the sentence as it was already lower than the prosecutor’s demand.
