Canoe Competition at Badung River

Denpasar administration held canoe competition at Badung river on Sunday (24/2).

“The competition is carried out to increase water tourist attractions in Denpasar, exactly located on the North of Tanah Kilap temple,” Head of Tourism department Denpasar Putu Budiasa said.

Besides, the competition aims at increasing variety of water tourist attractions while celebrating Denpasar City birthday, which is on 27 February.

The competition is also expected could grow people awareness to maintain the river cleanliness and preservation.

“The canoe competition this year is slightly different and offers variety. The activities will also firstly contend paddle canoe and stand up paddle canoe,” he said.

Participants are not limited and could directly register at Dispar Denpasar starts from 6 to 21 February 2013.

Meanwhile, Gusti Gede Suanda as the committee chied said that the competition will be divided into two categories, general and students.

The participants will be assessed on their agility, skills, accuracy, and speed to reach finish line.

“We hope the competition could encourage youths to care about environment especially Badung river cleanliness,” he said.

Bali surf athlete I Gusti Putu Oka Sulaksana said that the competition is good not only as a part of tourist attraction but for regeneration of that kind of sport.
