Pecalang Also Secure Ngurah Rai Airport on APEC Summit
The security of Ngurah Rai International Airport will be prepared in layers at the APEC summit in October 2013, involving “pecalang” or the traditional village security in Bali.
The Naval Air Force Commander (Lanud) Ngurah Rai Col (GNI) Atang Sudrajat in Denpasar said that to anticipate the criminal acts, outside the airport in addition of police also involves pecalang.
“As for the ring I or most inner areA, there is Air Force (TNI AU). Training is what we now holding,” he said.
According to him, the security outside the airport is important for the officers to the possibility of early detection of crimes, including the anticipation of the threat of terrorism.
“In essence, all must work together and not just focus on security in the airport,” he said.
Atang explained that planning for the airport security and the surrounding area has been completed, but the detail inside the airport is still waiting for the completion of the airport building renovation.
The main problem to be faced by the airport when the APEC summit, according to him, is over the issue of limited land availability foraircraft parking. It only supports maximum of only six wide-bodied aircraft. “The rest will be assigned to Jakarta, Makassar, and even Medan,” he said.
On the other hand, Ngurah Rai will face the issue of delay in many flights as it only has one runway. Recently, inn average there are 300 commercial flights per day.
“Information of delays must be submitted three months before because the delay would influence all over the world, in which there are many direct flights to Bali,” said Atang.Filed under: Headlines
