Endangered Animals Owned by a Japanese is Saved

DENPASAR

The Bali Regional Police have succeeded saving five endangered animals from a Japanese with initial MT who stays at Vila Pasti I, Perancak Village, Jembrana regency.

“We don’t know yet his motive, whether it’s a hobby or to attract people staying in the villa,” said the Chief of Sub-Directorate IV Specific Criminal Reserse Directorate Polda Bali, AKBP Tri Kuncoro, in Denpasar.

According to him, those five conserved animals consist of one living crocodile and one dried crocodile, one yellow-top parrot from Irian Jaya, one orange-top parrot, and one peacock.

When they were saved by the officers, the living crocodile was in the pond surrounded by metal fence placed in front of the villa. The dried crocodile was placed on the cover of water pump.

Meanwhile, the two parrots were in the cage, and the peacock was set free at the backyard of the luxurious villa.

The police until now don’t decide the suspect yet because MT based on the investigation admitted that those animals were not his but they were entrusted by unknown.

“MT admitted that the animals are entrusted by unknown man. Since he is care of animal so he is willing to take care of them. Meanwhile, we are still deepening the investigation to determine the suspect,” said Tri.

He stated that now police have interrogated three witnesses including MT about the existence of the endangered animals in the villa since six months ago.

“MT’s statement is still premature, our plan is to follow up the witnesses’ information soon,” said Tri.

If the suspect has been determined, so the police will sentence him on article number 40 paragraph 2 junto article number 21 paragraph 2 Regulation number 5 year 1990 about Conservation of Natural Resources, Animals, and Ecosystem with imprisonment of maximum 5 years and fine of maximum Rp100 million.
