Australians Account for 25 Pct of Bali’s Tourist Arrivals

DENPASAR

Australian tourists accounted for 25.26 percent of the overall tourist arrivals in Bali in the first two months of this year which reached 474,829, according to data from the local statistics office.

“The number of Australian tourists rose 0.46 percent from 119,054 in the same period last year,” head of the statistics office I Gede Suarsa said.

With the figure, Australia led the top ten source countries of foreign tourist arrivals in the resort island in January and February, he said.

Most of the Australian tourists came to Bali via Ngurah Rai Airport by direct flights from their country, he said.

“Only 1,146 of them came to Bali by sea and most of them traveled by cruise liners,” he said.

More and more Australians have visited Bali which they saw as their “second homes”. As a result, Australia contributed more than a one-fourth of the overall tourist arrivals in Bali, he said.

He said the number of tourists from five of the top ten sources of tourist arrivals rose significantly. They were Australia with a 0.46 percent increase, Japan 9.97 percent, Malaysia 9.05 percent, the United States 18.39 percent and Singapore 1.74 percent.

However, the number of tourists from the other five countries fell, with Britain leading the decline with 9.55 percent, followed by Taiwan 8.74 percent, China 7.26 percent, South Korea 4.21 percent and Russia 2.83 percent.

Bali has set itself the target of attracting 2.8 million foreign tourists this year, while last year more than 2.94 million tourists visited the resort island.
