42.000 Dogs are Targetted to be Vaccinated
The government of Gianyar regency, Bali, targeted vaccination to at least forty two thousand dogs for this year to prevent the spread of rabies virus.
“Beside we also eliminate selectively dogs that have potential to be contaminated by rabies,” said the Head of Husbandry, Fishery and Maritime Affairs Department Gianyar Regency Made Putra Amarta.
At the mass-vaccination at Mas Village, Ubud District, he mentioned that in April 2013 there are 28.000 anti-rabies vaccinations available.
“We have target of 42.000 dogs are vaccinated until November 2013. If less, we will ask aid from the provincial government,” said Made Putra.
He thought that so far there is increasing of people awareness on the danger of rabies.
“It is proved by in every vaccination, residents who have pets are coming to get vaccine,” he said.
In 2009 there were 13 case of rabies on dogs. In 2010 there were 106 case, 8.762 dogs were eliminated and 53.727 dogs were vaccinated.
In 2011 there were 23 case of rabies on dogs, 4.623 dogs were eliminated and 36.793 dogs were vaccinated. Then, in 2012 there were nine case, 1.325 dogs were eliminated and 32.359 dogs were vaccinated.
“In 2013 there is one case of rabies on dog at Payangan district. But it’s already handled,” said the Team Leader of Rabies Vaccination Gianyar Regency I Gusti Ngurah Dibya.
The certainty of rabies contamination in Payangan district is through the result of lab test on the dog after biting a resident. “The patient of the dog’s bite had immediately got VAR injection,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gianyar Regent Anak Agung Gde Agung Bharata reminded related institution not to eliminate dogs villainously.
“If there is any dog that must be eliminated, don’t make it died painfully. But eliminate it properly,” he said.Filed under: Headlines
