Illegal Fishing Harm the Country Rp30 Trillion
Illegal fishing has potential to harm the country up to Rp30 trillion every year, said the General Director of the Maritime Resources and Fishery Supervisory Station (PSDKP) of Maritime Affairs and Fishery Ministry, Syahrin Abdurrahman.
“In Indonesia there are three areas that is in danger of illegal fishing Natuna Water, Arafuru Sea and North Sulawesi Water.” He said in the Maritime Security Desktop Exercise and Law of the Sea Course in Nusa Dua, Bali.
Based on the research findings of KKP and Universities from Indonesia and overseas, the harm potential at Arafuru Sea reaches up to Rp11, 8 trillion per year.
According to him, those three areas become the main focus of monitoring both independently by KKP and collaborate with Bakorkamla.
“The Natuna and North Sulawesi Water is the entrance to Indonesia that have great possibilities of illegal fishing, as well as Arafuru Sea, which is the world fish storage,” he said.
The daily official of Maritime Safety Coordination Agency, Laksamana Madya TNI Bambang Suwarto said that there are many illegal fishing in Indonesian marines.
