Karangasem and Denpasar are the Nominee of Heritage City

Karangasem Regency and Denpasar success to be in top ten nominee list of heritage city in Indonesia because they culd preserve Indonesian heritage asset.

“Karangasem and Denpasar represent Bali to sign Commitment Certificate of Indonesian Heritage City on November 8, 2012,” said Karangasem Vice Regent I Made Sukerana in Denpasar.

He will go to Jakarta at the beginning of next week to attend the announcement of winner for the award of Public Work Ministry.

Government of Karangasem Regency gives appreciation on the program of arranging and preserving heritage city (P3KP) held by Ministry of PU through Directorate General of Layout and Indonesian Heritage Preservation Agency (BPPI).

Based on the result of verification and evaluation done by the central team, they decided Karangasem Regency is on the top ten list nominee for Heritage City in Indonesia that is appropriate to be taken as world heritage.

The region in the Eastern corner of Bali Island having hills and valleys and various beautiful natural panoramas, has potential becoming asset of heritage.

The heritage assets in herited are Karangasem Palace, Taman Ujung, Tirta Gangga, Besakih Temple, Tenganan, Budakeling, Sidemen, Bukit Jambul, Iseh, Putung, Agro Sibetan, Tulamben and rice fields at subak Tegenan.

Beside, there are many more heritage assets of nature, culture and others that need to be inventoried.

Karangasem Vice Regent Made Sukerana hoped that Karangasem not only becomes the nominee for heritage city in Indonesia but also propose for program and realization from the central government to save and take care of the heritage existence so that it’s preserved.

“The cultural heritage asset should be a continuation program that could bring welfare benefits for local people through proposal to UNESCO to be a world culture heritage,” said Made Sukerana.
