45,9% AIDS Patients are in Productive Age

The National Population and Planned Family Agency (BKKBN) of Bali Province stated that 45.9 percent of HIV/ AIDS patients on the island infected people in productive age, 20-29 years old, thus it becomes a dilemma on teenager problem in Bali.

“The patients of losing immunity in Bali during the last 27 years is 7.291 people, said The Head of National Population and Planned Family Agency Bali Chapter I Wayan Sundra.

He said that if it’s related to the characteristics of AIDS whose symptoms appear after 3 to 10 years being infected, it proves that mostly they have been infected when they are younger.

Thus, preventive efforts should be done earlier, regarding in the last few years there are trends happening related to teenagers such as decrease of girls median age of first marriage.

Besides, he added, increasing number of HIV and AIDS case and drugs distribution become the main problem, while other problems also need serious attention.

Bali as a tourist destination both domestic and international, said I Wayan Sundra, faces dilemma of teenagers problems that is expected could be solved completely.

Through speech competition on marriage age postponement held by BKKBN Bali involving participants from eight regencies and one city in Bali, they aim to socialize the planned generation (GenRe) program.

The effort could stimulate and inspire teenagers to improve their knowledge and understanding on GenRe program materials so that they could avoid giving birth too early, giving birth too old, too often being pregnant and having children too close.

GenRe program is hoped could minimize problems in teenagers. The role of information and counseling center (PIK) for teenagers at school is very important in helping students to get information and sufficient and correct counseling about family finction.

He gave details on eight family function consisting of religious, socio-cultural, love, protection, economic, education, environment preservation and reproduction function.

GenRe speech competition involving nine participants consisting of Junior and Senior High Schools who represent their regencies/city.
