French Citizens Charged Five Years in Prison

French citizens Vincent Roger Petrone (44) was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rp1 billion in the case of smuggling marijuana weighing 59.7 grams to Indonesia via Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali.

In the trial at Denpasar District Court, the Public Prosecutor I Putu Gede Astawa considers defendant violated Article 113 Paragraph 2 of the Law No. 35 Year 2009 on Narcotics.

Defendants who works as a building plasterer in his country will propose a plea in the next hearing.

In a session led by Chief Justice PN Parulian Saragih Denpasar, prosecutors elaborated on the arrest of the accused in international passenger arrivals terminal Ngurah Rai Airport, on January 29, 2013 just after stepping off the plane Malaysia Airlines flight MH-583 from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Upon the examination at Customs Board Ngurah Rai Airport, the defendant is in hurry so as to officers suspect his act.

Officers failed to find illicit goods in the bag of the defendant by using a scanner. Officers then took defendant to Kuta BIMC Hospital to check the physical condition of the accused.

“The result of ‘X-ray’ hospitals indicates a round shaped foreign body in the digestive cavity defendant,” the prosecutor said.

After the process of spending the round object that contains pasta was tested and found marijuana or “hashish”.
