The Pelebon of Gianyar King’s Oldest Daughter




Thousands of people followed the procession of the oldest daughter of the King of Gianyar’spelebon(cremation), Anak Agung Istri Muter, MA. towards Gianyar cemetery, on Soma Wage Kulantir (Monday of Kulantir) (2/9) at 01.00 pm. The Pelebon ceremony attended by Commander IX/ Udayana Mayor General Wisnu Bawa Tenaya, government officials, relatives and other close families, using Bade Tumpang Sembilan(Nine-level Balinese coffin) and Lembu Hitam (black cattle).

The Palebon procession led by a number of priests, namely Ida Pedanda Gede Geria Bakbakan Gianyar, Ida Pedanda Wayahan Bun Geria Sanur Pejeng Village, Ida Pedanda Gde Geria Kesian , Ida Pedanda Gde Geria Siangan, Ida Pedanda Gde Geria Hyang Api Gianyar, Ida PedandaBuda Geria Gunung Sari Peliatan Ubud and the priests from Puri Agung Gianyar. A.A. Istri Muter passed away on Tuesday (19/10/2011) at 05:30 am due to illness. After she passed away, herlayon (corpse) was processed by Makingsan di Gni (cremation) at the local cemetery.

The General Chairman of Palebon, A.A. Gde Raka Payadnya explained that thePalebonof A.A. Istri Muter wasalso followedby the Jero Seroni, the wife of thelast Gianyar King/ regent A.A. Gde Ngurah (1920-1945).

The committee secretary A.A. Alit Asmara added that Anak Agung Istri Muter, MA. was the first daughter of four children of the last King Gianyar (IX) having kania status (unmarried throughout life). Anak Agung Istri Muter has three little brothers, Mr. Anak Agung Gde Agung, Anak Agung Rai Agung, and Anak Agung Gede Oka. The last name is the first Gianyar Regent, the father of the Regent of Gianyar A.A. Gde Agung Bharata. A.A. Istri Muter is also the aunt of former Minister of Society Social Affairs RI on President Gus Dur era, Anak Agung Gde Agung.

During her life, A.A. Istri Muter had studied in HIS Klungkung,graduated in 1934, Mulo (junior high school) in Malang, East Java, graduated in 1937, and HBC (senior high school) graduated in 1938. She receivedher master’s degree(MA) from Fletcher School of Diplomacy and International Lawin the United States of America.In addition,she served at the Consular Embassy in Bonn, West Germany and she was active in the Wastra Prima BatikAssociation.

The sequence of ceremonies had been held previously, which is Nyukat Genahin Gianyar cemetery and Negtegang held on Thursday (29/8), Nyurat Kajang on Friday (30/8), and on Saturday morning (31/8) there were Ngening, Mesiram, Munggah, Meperas, Mudalang Adegan, Munggah Ngaskara,Nyuung on Sunday (1/9) and on Monday (2/9) the summit of thepelebon ceremony that began with Mlaspas Bade.
