Officially Opened, Bali Toll is Free for One Week


President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially opened the 12.7-km Bali toll road, spanning across Benoa Bay, on Monday. The president also officially named the toll road ‘Bali Mandara’.

The toll road constructed above the sea level is hoped can reduce traffic jams in the Ngurah Rai Airport and Nusa Dua area.

Meanwhile, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika claimed it is the most beautiful toll in the world.

“We can see the sunset from here, and laso the green mangrove, airplane traffic above our head, fisherman activities, and the sparkling night. It’s so beautiful,” he said.

At the meantime, PT Jasamarga Balitol, a subsidiary of PT Jasa Marga Tbk, make Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa higway free for the users for a week since Tuesday (24/9) or after being officially opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

“For a week since Tuesday (24/9) or one day after being officially opened by President Yudhoyono on Monday (23/9), the road users don’t have to pay anything as it is still under tryout period. It is also a part of socialization before it runs fully,” said the Main Director of PT Jasamarga Balitol, Akhmad Tito Karim.

Although the toll tariff is free, added Tito, all service units along the 12.7 kilometers highways have been operated fully, such as vehicles of Toll Service, rescue, Ambulance, crane and Road Patrol (PJR).

He also explained that four-wheels vehicles only can run minimal 60 km/hour and maximum 80 km/hour. While maximum speed for motorcycle is only 40 km/hour.

Furthermore, he added that starting from October 1st 2013 at 12.00 am, the highway users will pay the official rate.

The rate of the first highway in Bali is operated using open system with rate for first category (sedan, minibus and similar types as well as bus) is Rp 10,000, second category (two-axles truck) is Rp 15,000, third category (three-axles truck) is Rp 20,000, fourth category (four-axles truck) is Rp 25,000, and fifth category (five or more axles truck) is Rp 30,000.

“The rate for sixth category (motorcycles) is Rp 4,000,” he said.

The highway in Bali is the second highway equipped with motorcycles line after Suramadu Bridge Highway.

Like the other over-sea highways Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa highway is also equipped with anemometer to keep the riders’ safety, especially the motorcycles riders.

“If the sea wind is 40 km/hour or more, so the highway will be temporarily closed, so it isn’t endanger the riders,’ he said while adding that the anemometer can be seen in all toll gates.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Highway Managing Agency (BPJT) Arief Wicaksono said that like the other bypass, the highway in Bali also will be inspected every six months to maintain the standard of service steady as what is determined. Every semester, the result will be given to the agency.
