Bali and Jakarta are Favorite for MICE Destination


Bali and Jakarta are still the favorite destination of Indonesia and the international community to hold meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), according to data reported by the International Convention Association (ICCA) through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

“We’ve developed a variety of strategies in other areas, but apparently according to the data from ICCA based in Amsterdam, only Bali and Jakarta are favorite places,” said Director General of Tourism Destination Development Kemenparekraf Firman Rahim on the sidelines of the “Field Trip Incentive Travel Destination Management Company” in Sanur, Denpasar, on Monday.

Based on the data of Country and City Rankings 2012 by International Association Meetings Market, it is mentioned that Indonesia ranks at 41 out of 109 countries of ICCA members, while Bali and Jakarta respectively ranked 48 and 182 out of 390 cities in the world.

Firmansyah said that the meeting held in Sanur was to discuss the matter related to incentive travel. As to work that type of travel we must know the needs of each country that will be the marketing target.

“To create an incentive travel package we must conduct a study and mapping of the country targeted for marketing. What the need of the market is. Since this incentive travel is usually held by a company as a form of appreciation to employees who successfully meet the job target,” he said, accompanied by Chairman of DPD Indonesian Congress and Convention Association (INCCA) Ida Bagus Surasana.

Firmasyah further said that the trip activities undertaken by the company, then the quantity on an incentive trip to a destination will be the measurement that the destination is safe, comfortable and attractive.

“The essence of the incentive travel is a program given as a reward for the performance achieved by the workers in order to achieve the objectives better,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jane Schuildt from World Marketing Group Founder President, as guest speaker at the event said that travelers from the United States generally want the arts and culture tourism.

“Incentive tourists from the United States want arts and culture tourist object. So, there is a huge opportunity in Indonesia, especially Bali. These objects can be packed in one place, so that the tourists should not linger around on the way,” she said.

She explained that more tourists want to enjoy the attractions in one place while doing outbound with members of the group.

“They are in addition to travel, also have `outbound` so that they feel relax and motivate each other work on arrival at the country,” she said.
