Bali Initiates Water Conservation Area

Bali as a small island that relies on water attractions, initiated a network of water conservation areas (KKP) with a priority in a number of regions in this area.

“This plan has been discussed in KKP Bali networking workshop involving various parties,” said Head of Department of Marine and Fisheries Bali I Made Gunaja on Thursday.

He said that the blueprint will be a reference document for KKP development in Bali with priorities in Karangasem, East Bali which include Tulamben, Candidasa, Padangbai and Bunutan.

While in Buleleng regency includeTembok, Sambirenteng, Penuktukan, Les, Tejakula, Pejarakan, Sumberkima and Pemuteran.

While Badung regency includes Kuta, Uluwatu and Ungasan, Denpasar covers Sanur beach, Perancak in Jembrana and Nusa Penida in Klungkung.

I Made Gunaja referred to the management of coastal and marine areas in Bali to be sustainable, according to the principle of  “One Island, One Planning and Management” as well as local wisdom “Nyegara Gunung”.

Therefore, it needs to make a network of water conservation areas include coastal areas, sea and river flow on the island, he said.

In Bali there has been already KKP include West Bali National Park, Public Forest Park (Tahura) Ngurah Rai and marine protected areas (DPL) in Buleleng regency.
