Bali Targets to Build Drug Rehabilitation Center in 2015

Construction of a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Bangli Regency, Bali, expected to be completed in 2015.

“We shall build a drug rehabilitation center. This is important because the addict actually still have a chance to recover,” said Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika in Denpasar, Tuesday.

Since a few years ago, the provincial government of Bali prepares the land for construction of a drug rehabilitation center next to the Psychiatric Hospital in Bangli regency.

According to Pastika, previously the cost of construction of the facility has been allocated in the state budget. However, until now it has not been realized because the funds that originally allocated to Bali might be used to finance drug rehabilitation centers in other provinces.

“ Lately I was visited by Kalakhar (Chief Executive) of BNN. I have affirmed that it would be built by them or the provincial government,” said Pastika who was former BNN Kalakhar which initiated the development of a drug rehabilitation center in Lido, Bogor Regency, West Java.

Governor recognized that it is not easy to reduce the number of drug addicts. He said he felt sorry when there are people who caught only carry a two -rolled marijuana or ecstasy and sent to jail.

According to the former police chief of Bali, after getting out from jail, addicts did not realize their mistakes, even become more addictive. “So it is my goal to make drug rehabilitation center,” he said.

Moreover, based on the Narcotics Law, the users are not subjected to imprisonment, but must undergo rehabilitation. But until now, there was no facility Bali.
