Bali Police Arrests ATM Burglars
Bali Police again arrested two burglars of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) often targeting foreign tourists.
“This is the second arrest of the officers of the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation, which previously managed to catch two other perpetrators who are part of a group of ATM burglar,” said Public Information Sub- Section Head of Bali Police Assistant Commissioner Sri Harmiti in Denpasar on Thursday.
Both suspects have initials of KD (20) and KN (19) arrested on Sunday in a rented house in Jalan Pulau Yani, Pemogan, South Denpasar.
They were arrested on the report of an Australian Ranko Sikaloski to Bali Police that he had lost cash amounting to Rp6 million on Friday.
To the police, the victim claimed his fund in the Commonwealth Bank ATM have lost when taking cash in front of a nightspot in Jalan Legian, Kuta.
Head of the Unit IV General Criminal Investigation Directorate, Commissioner Wayan Suta Astawa, explained that the mode used by the suspects taking the advantage of a victim while trying to take cash.
“They have their respective roles. Someone to talk to distract the victim, there is also one who spied on the victim’s ATM pin,” he said.
Denpasar City Police are currently mapping a number of automated teller machines (ATMs) prone to security problems in Denpasar.
According to him, ATM mapping efforts is to make the police easier to deploy personnel in order to keep an eye on number of ATMs that are considered prone to crime.
“That would be a police concern for surveillance activities,” he said.
In addition to mapping ATM prone to security problem, his side also has written to Banks in Denpasar including Bank Indonesia Representative Office Region III Bali – Nusa Tenggara to improve internal security, including the installation of surveillance cameras or close circuit television (CCTV).Filed under: Headlines
