Tabanan Regent Refuse to Issue Modern Store Permit

Tabanan Regent, Ni Putu Eka Wiryastuti, no longer issue permits for establishment of modern stores in the area to avoid unhealthy business competition.

“The permit to build modern stores is stopped temporarily until the enactment of local regulation on an ongoing basis,” she said in Tabanan, Bali, on Monday.

She asked investors not to build a modern store. “But for existing modern shops are still welcome to operate,” she said.

In addition to avoid unhealthy business competition, the prohibition of the establishment of a modern store also to provide an opportunity for traditional merchants.

“If a modern store needed, at least it should be in the area of attractions or other places away from traditional vendors,” said Wiryastuti.

Meanwhile, Head of Department of Cooperation Industry and Small, Medium Enterprise Trade Tabanan, Anak Agung Gede Dalem Tresna Ngurah, added that the ban on the establishment of a modern store still refers to the Regent decree No. 18 of 2011.

He still proposed regulation on the construction of modern stores. “We design the legal product, while the authority to issue permit lies on the Investment and the Regional Licensing Agency,” he said.
