Bali is the Favorite Destination for Chinese Tourists

JAKARTA ~

Bali is one of the world 10 most favorite tourist destinations for Chinese tourists, apart from Australia, Cape Town, Edinburgh, Hawaii, Madrid, Egypt, Niagara Falls, Paris and Switzerland. That’s the result of the polling on Beijing People’s Broadcasting 2011.

“Chinese tourists visiting Indonesia most are choosing Bali as their favorite place to have vacation,” said Secretary of the Directorate General of Tourism Marketing, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) I GustiNgurah Putra in Jakarta, on Sunday.

Responding to the results of the polling, Kemenparekraf determined to increase tourist arrivals from China through increasing accessibility between Indonesia and China.

Ngurah Putra said that so far China is the main market of Indonesia tourism that annually contributes relatively large enough to the foreign tourists visits to Indonesia.

“In 2013 the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia at 8.7 million and about 800,000 contributed by Chinese tourists. Meanwhile, in 2014 the government targeting 9.2 million tourists, so it is expected that the contribution from China amounted to 970,000, increase around 170,000 tourists,” he said.

Kemenparekraf monitored Chinese tourists having vacation in Indonesia generally prefer the long holidays such as Chinese New Year. Chinese tourists have an average length of stay about 4-5 days to expenses around 100-110 U.S. dollars per day.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Mari Elka Pangestu, in November 2013 visited China in order to promote Wonderful Indonesia program.

Mari also conducted bilateral talks with the Government of Fujian Province to improve relationship through the sister province program (Central Java – Fujian) and sister cities (Surabaya – Fuzhou and Chengzhou – Palembang).

Improved relationship is established, among others, by opening direct flights as done by Xiamen Air connecting Fuzhou (capital of Fujian) and Jakarta and Hainan Airlines from Beijing to Bali.

Ngurah Putra added promotional efforts and increasing direct flights are expected to increase tourist arrivals from China to Indonesia.
