Ngurah Rai Airport Closed, 400 Flights to be Dispensed

Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, will be closed for 24 hours on Monday (31/3), which coincides with the implementation of Nyepi.

“As in previous years, we close the airport on Monday (31/3) at 6:00 am until Tuesday (1/4) at 06.00 am,” said Co General Manager of Ngurah Rai Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita, in Kuta, on Tuesday.

Gusti Ngurah Ardita explained during the Nyepi Day around 400 flights will be disepensed. The number consist of  248 domestic flights and 152 international flights.

For smooth operation and security of the implementation of Nyepi, so Angkasa Pura working with the Air Navigation has sent a NOTAM (Notice to Airman) to airlines and airports around the world.

In addition to the airport closure, six harbors in Bali also will be closed on that day.

“The governor of Bali, Made MangkuPastika, already sent letter related to the implementation of Nyepi to management of airport, seaport and lake and river crossings transportation ( ASDP ) in this area,” said Head of Public Relations of Bali Province, I KetutTeneng in Denpasar.

He said that six sea ports consist of Gilimanuk, Padangbai, and Benoa in Denpasar that serves passenger ships as well as loading and unloading from various regions in Indonesia.

In addition, Celukan Bawang, a port for loading and unloading building materials such as wood and cement in Buleleng, North Bali, Amuk port in Karangasem regency, which specifically serves cruise ships from around the world and Nusa Penida port, Klungkung Regency.

No Vehicle Dispensation on Nyepi

Bali provincial government also will not issue a dispensation for vehicle to be allowed passing by on Nyepi.

“There is no dispensation for anyone to be able to use a vehicle while Hindus are carrying out Tapa Brata Penyepian, unless dispensation issued by bendesa adat (chief of village) for urgent situation because of illness or childbirth to the hospital,” said I Ketut Teneng.

Therefore for governmental and private agencies running public services, it is very urgent to prepare officers at work the day before until a day after Nyepi.

The implementation of Nyepi, Saka New Year 1936, on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 06.00 am until 06.00 am in the following day.

Therefore, those who get a mandate to carry out tasks on Nyepi Holy Day must be well prepared, especially with regard to consumption, as they will be at work more than 24 hours.

Vital institutions that continue to provide services or its officers are fully alert on Nyepi, among others are hospitals, Fire Department, PLN officers, Ngurah Rai Airport, and hotel staffs.

Ketut Teneng added that employees who carry out tasks that are already in place before Nyepi day so they will not distract and still respecting the implementation of Nyepi.
