Tourism Area Must Beneficial for Balinese

DENPASAR ~

Chairman of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) of Bali, Ida Bagus Ngurah Wijaya, wanted some attractions on the island has the status as a National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) to give benefit to local communities.

“KSPN is important to reform the tourist areas, not just the physical part but also the impact on the surrounding community,” he said on the sidelines of a discussion of tourism in Denpasar.

According to him, KSPN will be utilized by local communities as the development of the area basically also adopted local preferences.

“If it is based on local preferences, then they feel compelled to keep the region. Or in other words, to reform the tourist area as well as build the community,” he said.

He took example of the area of Sanur, Denpasar, which its KSPN development plan is complete and will be a pilot project of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) with a total budget of 200 billion, of course, the benefits are not only enjoyed by foreign tourists.

“SMEs (Small, Medium Enterprise) can be developed, the area became more organized and so far people visiting the area are not only foreign tourists but the Balinese also crowded at this tourist area,” said Ngurah Wijaya.

Meanwhile, Mangku Wayan Suteja from Bali Villa Association agreed that KSPN would bring many positive benefits.

“But it is important to note the zone, so that later the upcoming KSPN not be very dense. If it’s too dense, travelers will switch to other region because foreign tourists are generally looking for sites that are not too dense,” said Suteja.
