An 84-year-old man Arrested in Bali for Drugs Smuggling



Office of Surveillance and Customs Service at Ngurah Rai International Airport again successfully prevented drugs smuggling attempt of meth weighing 2,522 grams from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“The suspect claimed that he was entrusted the illicit goods by someone with the initials S from Madura before he left for Bali,” said the Head of the Office of Surveillance and Customs Service at Ngurah Rai International Airport, I Made Wijaya, on Saturday.

Officers arrested an 84 -year -old man, who claimed to work in Malaysia as a car washer since 1984, with initials ABA from Sampang, Madura, East Java, shortly after landing with Malindo Air, OD 306 Kuala Lumpur – Denpasar around 01:15 pm.

The arrest began when the old man’s hand luggage, was indicated carrying suspicious items as it passed through an X– ray scanner.

After being checked, the officers found three plastic bags containing clear crystal hidden in the inner cavity of his backpack.

In addition, officers also found two plastic bags inside the folds of his clothes in the purple red suitcase. After testing it, those five plastic bags are positive drugs or type of methamphetamine with a total weight of over 2.5 kilograms and predicted worth Rp5billion.

The suspect argued that he didn’t know that the goods that entrusted to him were crystal methamphetamine. He said that he wanted to go home to visit his sick wife and there’s no intention to bring the meth.

Until now, police officer still on a deep investigation to track those who entrusted the meth to the old man.
