Post Office and Customs Tighten Goods Checking


Renon Post Office, Denpasar, along with Bali Customs Office tighten the oversight on goods that arrive through the post office, especially from oversea in anticipation of drug smuggling.

“We have an agreement of the standard operating procedures with Customs. When there is information, it’s the Customs authority to check,” said Chief of Operating Units at PT. Pos Indonesia Bali, Dewa Mertyasa, in Kuta, Badung regency, on Friday.

This was done to prevent the illicit goods entering the island that is wrapped using the post package regarding that the drug syndicate will use all means to get drugs other than using conventional means, namely through the entrances.

Moreover, the post office does not have the relevant knowledge about the harmful substances contained in the drugs.

The cooperation is carried out also with the police if there is any suspicious item such as drugs so when it is delivered to the destination it will be overseen by the police.

Cooperation that eventually resulted in the success of police arresting drug packs simultaneously with the perpetrator.

Earlier on Wednesday (14/5) night, police arrested a man with the initials INS who received a crystal methamphetamine or shabu-shabu package weighing 715 grams from South Africa.

The local resident of Kerobokan, Badung regency, received the package stored into the painting that is wrapped with aluminum paper through postal delivery at the Renon Post Office.

Due to the X -ray scanning machine, officials ultimately prevent the release of the drugs that is methamphetamine type.
