Badung Government to Copy Archive of Dutch Historian

Government of Badung Regency plan to copy the archive of a Dutch Historian, Prof Henk Schulte, to complete the historical document that was burnt in 1999.

“We will still have a more intensive meeting with Prof Henk Schulte about what type of archive he owned in the Netherlands, regarding he is a historian and had done a research since a long time ago in Bali,” said the Head of Archive Office of Badung Regency, Anak Agung Ngurah Arimbawa, in Mangupura, on Monday.

Ngurah Arimbawa hoped that Prof Henk could help government of Badung regency in collecting the archive burnt in the old office located at Nitipraja area, Denpasar, post-General Session of MPR in Jakarta in 1999 that elected KH Abdurrahman Wahid as the President.

“The fire becomes some sort of learning for us so that it doesn’t happen again in the future,” he said.

However, he won’t go to the Netherlands soon, it will be discussed further.

Besides, he also asked help from mass media management that has any archive about Badung Regency since the first government will be copied to complete the archive.

Henk who had written a book titled “The Spell of Power: A History of Balinese Politics 1650-1940” published in 1997 with the focus on Mengwi Kingdom.

He is ready to help completing the archive needed by government of Badung Regency that was burnt in 1999.
