Feng Shui and Human Emotions

By S.BS. Surendran

Even for the most positive and cheerful person, staying positive in the face of consistent negativity is a difficult task.  Criticism, passive-aggressive behavior and a feel of distrust can put a damper on your positive cheerful, optimistic, and appreciative energy in any situation. In the long run you land up picking up such energies, vindictiveness, irritation and resentment and your life gets affected too.

A popular Chinese saying is, “Ailment of the heart requires medicine of the heart”. Here, the term heart and mind is interchangeable and the saying refers to psychological or mental illnesses and implies that they can be cured by psychological means.

Inner Feng Shui analysis reveals that there are seven human emotions which are joy, anger, anxiety, melancholy, sorrow, fear and fright. These are our responses to external environment and situations and when they are in small doses they do not cause much harm but for a longer period and in larger dosage they cause immense health disorders.

The feeling of   joy and fright relates to the organ heart and in turn to fire element. Melancholy relates to spleen which is earth element, the emotion of anxiety and sorrow relates to lungs and the element is metal, fear relates to kidneys and water element and anger relates to   liver and the element of wood.

Hence adapting the technique of the five elements the ancient Masters were able to curb one emotion using another which was based on the method of controlling cycle of the five elements. For example Joy (fire) can be overcome by anxiety (metal) in turn this can overcome anger (wood). Anger (wood) can overcome melancholy (earth) and in turn it can overcome fear (water).

Although the above techniques are time tested the following simple points can assist you with good inner Feng Shui to handle feelings of hurt, sorrow and trauma.
• Nobody can hurt you without your permission- it is how you respond that will take you through it without making yourself a victim of their treatment
• Others can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do-Train yourself not to respond or act until your own feelings and emotions are under control.
• You cannot achieve anything by getting all frustrated and bitter- The feeling of stuck and helpless is your soul’s call emotionally move away from someone who is trying to hurt you.

Adapting some personal Feng Shui enhancers and for the living space could assist in maintaining a balance of emotion.
• Any jade piece which is worn on the human body gets the same body temperature and starts emitting long wave bio-spectrum. Hence wearing jade bracelets, rings or even carrying a natural jade stone will calm the emotions.
• The decor of a home can have a very strong influence on the emotions of its inhabitants
hence decorate with light, sunny colors such as yellows and oranges. Add as much cheering sunlight as possible by using sheer window treatments (or none at all), and hanging mirrors on the walls to reflect the light from nearby windows.
