Udayana Commander of Military Expects Bali to be Model of Democracy

Commander of Regional Military Command IX/ Udayana Maj. Gen. Wisnu Bawa Tenaya expects Bali to be model of peaceful democracy in the election of Indonesia’s President and Vice President in 2014.

“We have to keep the implementation of the presidential election running peacefully so that Bali becomes a model of democracy,” he said in Denpasar, on Thursday.

He attempted to get closer to the people to jointly maintain conducive security on the island.

“We are aware that the military is from, by and for the people,” said the two-star general.

He expected that the implementation of the Regional Head and Legislative elections conducted peacefully in Bali to be maintained so as not to disrupt the security stability on the island.

“Thanks to the Balinese people who also succeeded the implementation of the election last time and kept it ran safely,” he added.

Moreover, the island economy is based largely on the tourism sector, which is vulnerable to security issues.

So if the election of President and Vice President in 2014 conducted peacefully and smoothly, then it will boost tourism on the island.

On the other hand, he remains on the neutral line not to favor to one of the candidates.

On July 9th, 2014, the presidential election is followed by two pairs of president and vice president candidates, Prabowo – Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo – Jusuf Kalla that will certainly take place in one round.
