Indonesian President to Open Bali Arts Festival

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) is scheduled to open the 36th Bali Arts Festival (PKB) at the Open Stage Ardha Candra, Cultural Park, Denpasar on June 13, 2014.

“The opening will also be attended by the First Lady, Ani Yudhoyono, a number of ministers, and more than 100 tourism businessmen from different countries,” said Head of the Bali Provincial Department of Culture,Ketut Suastika, in Denpasar, on Tuesday.

The opening of PKB this time, he said, is also filled with Dwipa Jaya Balinese dance performance, which is the mascot of Bali Province. The dance is initiated by Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika in the implementation of PKB in previous years.

“In addition, the opening of PKB that will begin at 08:00 pm also featuring oratory created by the Indonesia Arts Institute (ISI) Denpasar with Rama Sita Prana Bhuana play,” he said.

The opening ceremony besides witnessed by the President, a number of  officials, Bali provincial and regional government officials, as well as artists and public as the open stage capacity can hold up to 10 thousand spectators.

Suastika added that this year’s PKB will take place on June 13 to July 12, 2014, with the theme “Kertamasa: Dynamics of Agricultural Community Life Towards the Universal Community Welfare” and present six main pieces, they are parades, performances, competitions/ parades, exhibitions, gatherings and documentation.

“The opening will be started with a parade at the afternoon at 02:00 pm, that will be held around Balinese People Struggle Monument, Bajra Sandhi, Denpasar,” he said.

The parade will start from the three junctions Puputan Renon-Moh Yamin, Denpasar and end in front of Bank BPD Bali. The parade will be followed by 15 arts teams from ISI Denpasar with Adi Merdangga dance, performances from nine regencies/ city, performance of Kodam IX Udayana representative, participation of East Nusa Tenggara and India, as well as drum band of Udayana University.

“In the implementation of the parade, the representative of regencies/ city is given the opportunity to present fragmented dance for 15 minutes with new and more innovative touches, in order to minimize the impression of monotonous performance. Overall the parade will last for two hours,” said Suastika.
