Bali Customs Thwart Postal Package Contain Drugs Smuggling

KUTA ~

Ngurah Rai Customs officers placed at Renon Post Office, Denpasar, Bali, again foiled drugs smuggling attempt type shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) by hiding it inside books via three mail packages from Malaysia.

“After passing the X-ray scan machine, our officers conducted narcotics test and the clear crystals are methamphetamine,” said the Head of Regional Office of Bali-Nusa Tenggara Barat and Nusa Tenggara Timur Customs Directorate General, Rahmat Subagyo, in Kuta, Badung Regency, on Tuesday.

According to him, those three mail packages are received in different time, one on Saturday (28/6) and the other two on Monday (30/6).

On Saturday (28/6), the officers got the package contained two story books, clothes (4), and snacks (12 packs) directed to a recipient with initials KS.

The officers found 206 grams of shabu-shabu in the front and back cover of the book.

Then two days later, officers again found the illicit goods in the packages from Malaysia inside books.

In the first package containing a story book and clothes (10), officers found two packs containing 327 grams of drugs in the front and back cover of the book.

Meanwhile, in the similar package containing books, baby clothes and snacks, officers found two packs containing shabu-shabu, weighing 206 grams inside the book.

Rahmat explained that those two packages are directed to someone with initial KA and S.

“This already happens several times. We monitor in all lines. They are still trying and now it happens in two consecutive days,” he said. He further explained that at the same day, a man with initial EEP took the package for S.

Then officers coordinated with police to arrest EEP.

The Head of Monitoring and Service Office of Ngurah Rai Customs, Budi Harjanto, suspected that the addresses used by the senders and recipients are fictive to play trick to the officers.

With that suspicion, officers not investigate to the recipient’s address because it is indicated as false one.

The suspect might be charged by Regulation about Narcotics with sentence maximum of 20 years in prison and fine of Rp10 billion.
