Bali Bride-to-Be Killed on Road

A young bride-to-be died horrifically on the notorious Denpasar-Gilimanuk highway when she fell from a motorbike into the path of a bus as her fiancé desperately tried to avoid bridgeworks in the evening dark.

Ni Kadek Artini Budi, 22, was riding pillion with her fiancé, Pande I Artana Astawa Kade Buda, 25, both from Buleleng and travelling southbound when the accident happened last Saturday, at Dusun Pangkung Dedari, 112 km from Denpasar.

Artini’s head went under the right-hand rear wheels of the bus, which crushed her helmet, killing her instantly.

Her fiancé, who fell to the left from his bike, was uninjured.

Police said Astawa swerved to avoid a road works lime pit near a bridge under repair and hit a traffic sign, toppling the bike.

The bus had been travelling northbound towards Gilimanuk.
