There are 44 houses of poor family in Nusa Penida, Klungkung regency, is renovated by the government of Bali Povince through the house renovation program.
“This year, there are 44 poor families in Nusa penida that get house renovation aid. Previously, there had been 285 houses renovated in Nusa penida,” Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said.
Some Nusa Penida residents, especially those who are categorized poor, used the chance in the simakrama (governor program to build friendliness with the residents) to ask any additional house renovation for poor family.
In responding that matter, Pastika stated that allocation for house renovation in Bali this year decrease into 1.300 units if it is compared to last year, which was 2000 units.
The allocation decrease is cause by the province main budget in 2013 goes to the regional election on May 15.
“The province main budget only affords 1.300 units house renovation because the money is used up for the regional election. The budget for election is allocated for almost 200 billions rupiah,” the ex-Kapolda Bali said.
Meanwhile, until now there are twenty thousands poor families in Bali queue at the social department to get one of that Bali Mandara program.
Pastika thought that the number of people queuing to get their house renovated indicates that the level of poverty is still high in Bali.
During 2010-2012, there are 6.000 poor families got their houses renovated. Each poor family got financial aid of twenty millions rupiah, which increase this year to be twenty-five millions rupiah per unit.
“If the program had been carried out since 20-15 years ago, maybe the queue of twenty thousands families could be finish, but at that time this problem had not become any concern yet. If people see Badung, Gianyar, Denpasar live in luxurious life but Nusa Penida, Kubu, Seraya, Gerokgak, and others are just found out living in poverty after this program was issued,” he said.
For next year, he wishes that there is more poor family that gets house renovation aid because actually his willing is 5.000 houses will be renovated in a year.
Meanwhile, responding the question from Nusa Penida resident about roadwork, the Secretary of Kungkung Regency Ketut Janapria said that it has been stated in the detailed lay out plan of Nusa Penida.
However, the main problem is commitment especially from the government of Klungkung regency since the road is regional road the hotmix asphalt producer company should be made in Nusa Penida.
“If we send hotmix asphalt from the main island which could spend a long time of travel, it will be dry before reaching Nusa Penida. If there is comminment of the government both regional and provincial, the hotmix asphalt should be produced directly in Nusa Penida,” he said.
