A 26-year-old man from Freemantle, WA has died in Bali after being trapped in a drainage ditch where it’s believed he crashed his scooter.
The body of Keith Coughlan, originally from Ireland, was found by a local in the early hours of Sunday morning while walking along the North Kuta road.
The local spotted the dumped vehicle on the side of the road before seeing the victim’s legs trapped under the wreckage, Nine News reported.
It’s believed police are investigating whether alcohol was involved after finding seven bottles of beer at the scene.
Mr Coughlan was previously identified as an Australian, but it’s since been confirmed he was an Irish citizen and does not have an Australian passport.
While aware of his death, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade does not have a consular role in this matter despite residing WA.
The grim discovery comes just days after another Aussie man fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Seminyak, Bali.
The 47-year-old fell from the fourth-floor balcony at around 8pm on Wednesday night at The Haven Hotel, and was declared dead at the scene.
Moped crash leaves couple in critical condition
Last month, a British couple was involved in a horrific road accident that left them both fighting for their lives in a Bali hospital.
The moped they were on collided with a car and another moped in Kerobokan, North Kuta on June 12.
The incident left Alex Hoyle, 29, in a coma after smashing his head, fracturing his jaw and breaking his cheek bone.
Meanwhile, his 27-year-old girlfriend Joella Senior suffered broken arms, a damaged rib cage and fractured pelvis, according to reports.
