Meanwhile, there are signs that sluggish Australian market is rebounding, with hotels here reporting this week increased interest in Bali vacations – and bookings.

One property experiencing robust Australian business is perennial Aussie favorite the Bali Dynasty Resort in Kuta, which has just been listed by the Australian Holiday with Kids magazine as number five on its list of top places for families to vacation.
The resort told The Bali Times this week that currently bookings “and occupancy [rates are] quite good for this period and the Australian market … dominates, (with) up to 50 percent” of guests.

The property’s sales and marketing director, Joy Gartner, said that the magazine’s readers’ recognition of its family oriented facilities was an honor.
“We are very proud to have been selected as the number five Best Family Resort International by the Holiday with Kids voters.

“This award not only recognizes the hotel’s outstanding facilities and services for children and families, but also recognizes our staff’s efforts to provide a happy and safe environment for all of our guests.”

In a review, the magazine gushed about the resort.

“A recent visit to the Bali Dynasty in South Kuta revealed an oasis of family delight. It seemed to have everything kids and parents wanted, so much so that the term ‘family friendly’ could have been tailor-made for this resort.”

The publication’s readers, meanwhile, ranked Bali’s Club Med seventh on its list of overseas resorts for families, noting that it “has a special club for babies and three kids’ clubs to please children from two to 17” so that “Parents can busy themselves trying wall-climbing, yoga, wind surfing or an aromatherapy wrap in the Club Med Spa.”
Another Australian publication also has praise for Bali.

Luxury Travel and Style Magazine places Bali on its annual 2007 Gold List of one of the world’s best island destinations, and lists in second place The Four Seasons Resort in Jimbaran Bay in its Best Overseas Resort category – also placing the property ninth on its Best Overseas Spa list.

A host of other Bali properties also made the cut, including the Ritz-Carlton Resort $ Spa, the Conrad Bali Resort and Spa and the Laguna Resort & Spa.
The accolades follow annual voting by readers of international magazines like Travel + Leisure of the United States that last year named Bali the world’s best island destination for the fifth straight year.

The continued recognition by savvy vacationers comes as the island’s government works to improve Bali’s infrastructure to enable a bigger influx of foreign visitors, including expanding Ngurah Rai International Airport to handle expected higher passenger numbers, and clean up the environment, under a program called Bali #1 Destination 2011.
Interviewed by The Times on Kuta’s biggest tourist draw, Kuta Beach, on Tuesday evening, a vacationing New Zealand couple who gave their names as Daniel and Sarah said they were drawn to Bali because of its beaches and surf – as well as the wide availability of clothing and crafts, including silverware, that was low priced.

“Since I’m from New Zealand, the beach is like my second home. This is my second time in Bali and the people here on the beach are so friendly and nice,” said Daniel.
Travel warnings issued by countries like the US and Australia had weighed on their decision to vacation in Bali, they said, but in the end they decided it was safe to travel and spend time here.

“Honestly, it was a tough decision for me in deciding to come here, because some of the travel warnings were so strong. But here I am,” said Sarah.
