The Ministry of Public Works said that the highway construction above the sea level connecting Benoa, Denpasar and Nusa Dua is 83 percent of completion.
“Now the construction is on schedule and will finish on time,” said the Head of Highway Management Agency Ministry of Public Work Ahmad Ghani Gazaly in the middle of regional consultation meeting in Denpasar.
According to him, the quality of that 11 kilometres road construction has been tested by special consultant.
“Generally, the road construction is not affected by weather. It’s almost done now,” he said.
He is optimistic that the highway prepared for APEC Summit will be completed before the event that will be attended by many country leaders started in October 2013.
Similar opinion was also stated by the Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto. He is optimistic that the Denpasar-Nusa Dua highway will be completed in May this year.
“We believe that the target will be achieve since there is no serious obstacle,” he said.
It is different compared to other road construction that was blocked due to the case of land acquisition.
Based on the data from BPJT, now there are 24 road construction projects in Indonesia, which is mostly happened in Java.
Meanwhile, Bali Vice-Governor Anak Agung Ngurah Puspayoga reminded the contractor handling the road construction project in Bali to be more attentive on surrounding.
“The location of the road construction is crossing sea and passing the mangrove forest, so the contractor handling the road construction project has to concern on the mangrove preservation,” said the Bali Vice-Governor Puspayoga accompanied by the member of Indonesian Republic Parliament Nyoman Dhamantra when monitored the road construction.
He hoped that if the construction is completed the mangrove forest should be conserved as it is.
“The mangrove forest is not only returned to its condition, but also should be enriched with additional plants inside the forest area, especially on the side of the highway,” Puspayoga hoped.
Puspayoga also asked the contractor to fix and clean the pile of soil produced during the construction so that the sea water could flow smoothly.
Besides, the road construction should be maximized preventing the mangrove damage. “We want at least there isn’t any obstacle and the mangroves are replanted soon.” Dhamantra said.
Referring to the agreement clause of the construction that doesn’t include contractor’s obligation to replant the mangrove forest, he said that the mangrove conservation must be done.
“It’s not in the agreement. It’s our initiative, We are concerned on the mangrove conservation,” Nyoman Dhamantra said.
