Indonesian couple arrested for stealing Australian tourist’s iPhone 13 at La Favela

The Bali Police arrested several people on Nov. 27, 2022 in connection with theft at La Favela.

A husband and wife pair were arrested by police in Denpasar for allegedly stealing a wallet from an Australian tourist at a famous Seminyak nightclub.

The victim, 30-year-old Terrianne Keen, reportedly left her hotel last weekend for a night out at the popular La Favela. At around midnight on Nov. 27, Keen realized that her iPhone 13 – reportedly worth IDR18 million (US$1,168) — was no longer in her pocket.

“The victim then filed a report to the Kuta Police,” said Denpasar Police Chief Bambang Yugo Pamungkas today.

Police managed to identify the suspects after viewing CCTV footage from the club, before tracking them down to a room they rented on Glogor Carik Road, South Denpasar.

The following afternoon at around 4pm, police arrested F, 35, his wife S1, 32, and their relative, S2, 42.

Police said S1 swiped Keen’s phone while S2 acted as her lookout. F received the iPhone 13 as the three intended to sell it to start a business in Bali.

Under Indonesian law, the suspects could face up to seven years’ imprisonment if proven guilty of theft.
