South Denpasar Police are questioning a 60-year-old man over allegations that he had sexually molested a 13-year-old boy at a house in his neighbourhood that he regularly visited.
The man, identified only by his initials, MS, was reported to police by the boy’s mother.
Police said the man was not a formal suspect but was being examined.
South Denpasar Police chief Leo Martin Pasaribu said it could be some time before the initial investigation was completed.
“There are still things to be checked. He has been detained for questioning,” Pasaribu said.
The boy’s mother told police in her complaint that MS, who lived at Jl Palapa, Denpasar, visited her house in Jl Tukad Buaji, Panjer, about 10pm on Monday.
He was a frequent visitor because he did business with her husband, who that day was in Java.
She said he had been downstairs talking to her son, who was watching television, and had given the boy Rp5,000 (56 US cents) to buy snacks.
When the boy returned from the shop MS suggested they go upstairs. Soon after the woman heard her son shout out in protest and had gone to investigate.
She found the boy crying on the floor and trying to zip up his pants. But the boy had refused to tell his mother what had happened.
The woman then asked neighbours if they knew anything about what had happened. They told her MS had molested the boy. He then told his mother MS was homosexual and had kissed him on the cheek and touched him intimately.
