Mangrove Leasing Receives Mixed Responses

The policy of Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika permited PT Tirta Rahmat Bahari for the utilization of eco-tourism in Taman Hutan Raya (Tahura) Ngurah Rai, Suwung, Denpasar, covering an area of 102.22 hectares, reaped the pros and cons of various circles from the community, environmentalists to Bali legislators.

Those who reject the policy loudly demanded that the license was revoked and revised. Even some factions of Bali parliament highlights the management license of mangrove forests in Tahura Ngurah Rai and asked Governor Made Mangku Pastika to refuse the continuation of cooperation with PT Tirta Rahmat Bahari.

The member of parliament judge the governor had ignored ethical things in the relationship between the executive and legislative coordination.

It is obvious that executive disregard position of mangrove forest as Bali bastion from abrasion, tidal waves, including tsunamis and lungs of the city.

While the activists of Bali Environmental Advocacy Committee (Kekal) advised the management of Taman Hutan Raya (Tahura) Ngurah Rai is conducted by customary people around the region.

According to the activists, the provincial government can reflect on the management and protection of the Monkey Forest in Padang Tegal, Ubud, or in Jungut Batu, Klungkung undertaken by customary people.

The management bring a positive impact on the forest, economic development through tourism and proven successful in improving people’s living standards.

The essence of all advice is that the Governor of Bali revoke the licenses of nature tourism management givento PT Tirta Rahmat Bahari to save the mangrove forest.

But the dissenting opinion delivered by the Regional Leadership of Council Democratic Party of Bali, o even asking for the matter is not extended because it will put pressure on the governor. According to him there are a lot of thoughtful solutions and a middle ground that can be taken to resolve the conflict.

Along with the surging wave of protests that make Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika wanted to be given time to review and study the issues related to the issuance of tourism business license in Tahura Ngurah Rai.

But the former Bali chief police reminded the protestors over the issuance of business license, also to see the real condition in the respective field.
