Police Investigate Street Fight Between Foreigners in Bali’s Dewi Sri Over The Weekend

A video of several foreigners beating up another foreigner on a busy street in Bali went viral over the weekend, with police now investigating a fraud case believed to be related to the assault.

The clip, posted by @thebalireel on Instagram, shows a man wearing a helmet being assaulted by several other men on Dewi Sri road. The victim, who was wearing a black t-shirt, tried to escape his assailants but they relentlessly punched and kicked him until he sat on the side road.

The video was shared by other accounts with commenters condemning the act, as it caused disturbance toward other motorists as well as agitating locals in general.

“We need tourists but not like these guys,” one user said.

Another user pointed out that the motorbike that was lying on the road was presumably driven by the victim. The motorbike was likely a rental vehicle, so any damages incurred in the incident would mean losses for the actual owner.

One user alleged that the assault victim was to blame, as he scammed one of his assailants – a foreigner who holds a KITAS (limited stay permit).

Kuta Police Chief Yogie Pramagita told Coconuts Bali over the phone today that the police have arrested the assault victim on suspicions of fraud.

“We did not receive any report on the attack itself. By the time we arrived at the scene, the crowd had already dispersed. The report that we received was a fraud case,” said Yogie, adding that the police are still investigating.

“We will give more updates later.”

The police also confirmed that the fight occurred between Russian citizens.
