Russian Tourist Arrested in Bali for Alleged Rape

A Russian man with the initial AS is currently arrested by the local police for reported rape, assault, intimidation, and destruction of property.

A foreigner from Russia with the initial AS was arrested in Badung, Bali, on Friday, the 26th of April. It was suspected that A had raped a Belarusian woman with initial TJSY in a living room of a villa in the Canggu Village, North Kuta subdistrict, Badung Regency, on Friday, the 19th of April. It was also suspected that AS’ action was driven by stress and intoxication.

Speaking on behalf of the local police precinct that arrested AS, I Gusti Nyoman Jaya Widura confirmed to the press on Wednesday, the 1st of May: “Indeed, someone reported that rape, assault, and vandalism took place in one of the villas in Canggu, North Kuta.”

The arrest of AS, however, turned dramatic. After AS’ arrest on Friday, the 26th of April, the police decided to transport the suspect to Prof. dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital for medical examinations. AS managed to flee the hospital only to end up being arrested by the police for the second time on Sunday, the 28th of April, in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency.

“We cannot make a conclusion of the suspect’s mental state just yet. But it is true that he tried to escape during the psychological assessment,” Widura added.

The accusation against AS did not stop at sexual assaults. According to the report received by the police from the locals, AS had also allegedly engaged in the destruction of properties and intimidation in another villa in the Cemagi Village, North Kuta. According to Widura, the alleged misdemeanour took place on Wednesday, the 24th of April. AS had stayed in the said villa from the 18th of April until the 22nd of April. However, when the villa proprietor charged AS for his stay, the former lost his temper and started ravaging the inside of the villa.

Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, the head of public relations of the Bali Regional Police, also told the press that “we the police shall be decisive in handling every single case. This crime, in particular, gave a bad name to the safety of Bali.
