A Russian tourist was found dead without clothes in a Bali villa room, Badung Police said.
BADUNG, Bali – A Russian tourist found dead in Bali shocked residents of Pererenan Village, Mengwi District, Badung, after staff discovered his lifeless body inside a villa room on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The man, identified by police as ZD, 27, was found naked and lying face down in his room under circumstances that remain unclear.
Police are still investigating the cause of death. An autopsy request has been submitted to the hospital but is awaiting the family’s approval. “We have requested an autopsy, but we’re still waiting for consent from the victim’s family,” said Acting Head of Public Relations of Badung Police, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, on Thursday, October 16.
The victim had been staying at a villa in Banjar Pengembungan, Pererenan, occupying room number 105. Witnesses said he had last been seen alive two days before his body was found.
The chronology began on Monday, October 13, when ZD visited the reception desk to extend his stay by one day. “He paid Rp500,000 in cash to extend his booking until Tuesday and then went back to his room,” said receptionist Ni Made Yuniasih.
By the next morning, October 14, staff noticed something unusual. At around 11:22 a.m., receptionist Sunia Fajarahmah went to remind ZD about checkout, but no one responded to repeated knocks. The door was locked from the inside, and the lights were still on. “I thought he might be resting,” she told officers.
Hours passed with no sound from the room. When there was still no sign of the guest that evening, staff decided to wait until the next day before reporting it to the villa manager.
On Wednesday, October 15, around noon, the villa manager instructed staff members Sunia and I Kadek Meisaputra to open the room using a spare key. At first, there was no odor, but when they opened the curtains, a strong stench filled the room. They found the victim lying face down on the floor, unclothed, with his head pointing north.
Police were immediately called to the scene. Investigators from the Badung Police and forensic team examined the room and confirmed there were no signs of violence. Early findings suggest the man had been dead for about two days before being discovered. Officers found vomit in the toilet, feces near the bathroom door and under a chair, water pooled near the bathroom, and a small bruise on the victim’s right temple.
Other items found included two used mosquito repellents, a bottle of Dreamz vitamin, mineral water, and scattered sunflower seeds. Police believe the victim may have fallen ill before dying but have yet to determine the exact cause.
“At this stage, we cannot confirm the cause of death. Immigration will assist in providing information about how long the victim had been in Bali,” Inastuti said.
Authorities are coordinating with the Russian Consulate and the victim’s family as the investigation continues. The case adds to a growing list of sudden deaths involving foreign nationals in Bali, raising renewed awareness about the need for better health and safety monitoring among long-term visitors.
