The Indonesian Police named a suspect, M Rasyid Amrullah Rajasa – the youngest son of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa – in a deadly accident that had occurred on the Jagorawi toll road.
Rikwanto, spokesperson for Jakarta’s Metropolitan Police Senior Commissioner, said Rasyid was punishable by more than five years in prison, if found guilty, as per the Regulation Number 22/2009.
Rikwanto explained that the suspect was driving his car at 100km per hour. After celebrating New Year’s Eve with his friends, the suspect felt sleepy. Then, he hit a family car in front of him. The accident, killing two passengers in the family car: Harun (57 years) and M Raihan (14 months). Three other passengers sustained injuries.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Hatta Rajasa, has offered condolences over the death of two people in a fatal crash, involving his son on the Jagorawi toll road on January 1. “We have offered condolences to the relatives of the victims,” he said.
Hatta said he is deeply saddened by the accident involving his youngest son, M. Rasid Amrullah Rajasa, who was driving a BMW jeep, when he crashed into a Daihatsu Luxio minivan on the toll road.
“Shortly after hearing the news, I requested my family to provide assistance to the families of the victims immediately,” he said.
He said his son, who is traumatised by the accident, is being treated at a hospital.
“We will visit the families of the victims,” he said.
