From the perspective of Ian Fallows, 26, a gas engineer from the UK
What are we here for?
We are here to engage ourselves fully in life and try to find enjoyment in every aspect of it.
Do you believe in the Big Bang theory that the circa-13.7-billion-year-old universe and all that’s in it was created by a massive explosion of enormously dense matter at what may have been the beginning of time?
I believe the Big Bang was only the beginning of the current age.
If there is a God, where is he?
God is what each individual makes of it; so it is within each individual.
Is there a mystery to life?
Not to this life. We’re born; we live; we die. But life always continues. The mystery is where it’s going.
Do you think we’re alone in the universe?
No – there is bacterial life on Mars.
There is a theory that there may be parallel universes with exact copies of us – doppelgangers – doing exactly the same thing as us right now. What do you think about that?
In the infinite expanse of the universe, there are infinite possibilities.
What do you think happens to people when they die?
The vessel we use goes back to the earth to create another vessel for new life. And the soul moves on.
Where is your soul and what is it?
Our soul is what gives a vessel life and occupies it for its lifetime.
Science says that all matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Therefore, will our energy, in the form of our soul, live on for infinity?
We only know life as determined by our current understanding. This could change and our soul along with it.
Do you know your place in the universe?
We all have a job to try to bring happiness to ourselves and others. My place is to enjoy my life and help others to do likewise.
Some people believe that because we are made of the same matter as the universe – carbon, and other elements, like nitrogen – anything we ask it will be attracted to us, popularised in the movie The Secret. What’s your view?
I believe people worry too much about their financial position. If people would relax and accept the flow of life then the true desires of happiness and love will come.
Are we being observed?
Religion tells us God is watching everything we do with the hope that we observe ourselves.
If there is a God, why does he allow such colossal suffering of people on Earth, either through war, disease or natural disasters?
To understand everything we need an opposite. Without suffering we would not know happiness.
