Cattle and buffalo populations in the province of Bali shrank by 161,087 from 639,793 in 2011 to 478,706 according to the Census of Agriculture on May 1st, 2013.
According to the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali, Gede Suarsa, domesticated cattle breeders have a tendency to sell when the price is high before Eid.
Three of the nine regencies in Bali have the highest population of cattle and buffalo: they are Karangasem, Buleleng and Bangli Regency.
Karangasem regency located at the eastern end of the island has a population of 109,336 cattle and buffalo, followed by Buleleng with 92,680 and Bangli Regency with 74,214.
Denpasar has the lowest cattle and buffalo population at 6,495. The most absolute decline in population of cattle and buffalo during 2011 and 2012, as much as 43,657, occurred in Buleleng Regency.
Gede Suarsa added that the lowest decline occurred in Denpasar, which was just 1,686.
