Foreign Investment Soars

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia reached US$10.34 billion last year, 73.2 percent up on 2006, the National Investment Coordinating Board said this week.

Domestic investment rose 57.8 percent last year to Rp34.87 trillion, above the target of Rp25.96 trillion, the board said. Overall, investment rose 71.7 percent.

Singapore was the biggest source of FDI, putting $3.75 billion into 124 projects, followed by the United Kingdom with $1.69 billion, South Korea with $627.7 million, Japan with $618.2 million and Taiwan with $469.7 million.
