Grape Expectations at the Ritz

New Zealand Winemaker Martyn Nicholls from Gravitas Wines of Great Stature made a special weeklong appearance at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali Resort & Spa Dava restaurant recently to promote his Marlborough-region wines. Giving Cloudy Bay a run for its money, the Sauvignon Blanc of the evening was the hit, having won seven Gold medals in wine shows around the world, including France’s leading wine competition, Citadelles, for the World’s Top Sauvignon Blanc. Resort Chef de Cuisine Dean Keddell magnificently paired a feast of seafood dishes in a special five-course dinner of borneo crab, sevruga caviar, red cooked quail with hand-cut noodles and hot foie gras, and coconut-grilled ocean trout and a a desert of Granny Smith apples won-tons. Seen enjoying the evening were Aman Resort’s Chrissie Lincoln and architect husband John; recently appointed GM of the Samaya Resort Ray Clark; Tropical Homes’ Nils Witterland; Richard North Lewis; Gil & Natasha Wilson; Ron & Lyn Peitruszka; and Darrell Smith.
