NAME: Mirna Melani
How do you think the country is doing now?
I’m a teacher and I’m more concerned about education than about other aspects. I think the country hasn’t done much about improving education. The system is not good at all.
Is the central government in Jakarta doing enough for the regions?
In my opinion they are doing quite good.
If you were running the country, what three things would you fix or change immediately?
Education, health system and corruption.
What do you think about Bali’s government?
I think the government here is quite good running the island. However, there are still lots of things to be done, especially developing infrastructure.
Are you worried about the deadly outbreak of rabies in Bali?
Indonesia is made up of more than 17,500 islands, many religions, dozens of ethnic groups and hundreds of dialects. Therefore, is it reasonable to expect “Unity in Diversity,” as the founding fathers declared?
It is indeed. But we need to reassure respect. When people respect each other then unity in diversity can be assured.
What are the qualities of an Indonesian?
Indonesians are hard workers, smart and honest.
What for you has been Indonesia’s greatest moment since it declared independence in 1945?
There hasn’t been one yet.
