May 20 brings a glorious solar eclipse, although, unless you’re in Japan, you don’t stand much chance of seeing it. If you’re lucky enough to be able to travel, it’s worth the trip. The eclipse will be ‘annular’. The Moon won’t just perfectly blot out the light of the Sun, it will appear slightly smaller than the solar disc, creating a glorious shining ring around a dark circle. The good news is, we will all benefit from the influence no matter where we are or what sign we belong to. One way or another, May has magic in store.
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Success is not all that it is cracked up to be. We desire it deeply when we feel that we have not got it, yet the moment we achieve it, we begin to find fault with it! Interestingly, failure is less final than we fear. We live in terror of making a mistake or of falling flat on our face but we soon discover that it is perfectly possible to bounce right back. Are you now running from a monster that doesn’t exist towards a reward that is vastly overrated – and which you can never properly claim? Relax a little. If you are enjoying your life, you are being successful.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
‘If in doubt, say nowt.’ Where I grew up in Yorkshire, that was the local motto. Today, all around the world, a different rule appears to apply. ‘If in doubt, bluff.’ Skim-read an article, then quote it with an air of authority. Half-remember something someone once said and then treat it as definitive. Three little words will get you all you need this month. They are, ‘I… don’t… know!’ The passage of Mercury through Taurus in May will challenge you to say them bravely each time you encounter a tricky question. Only then will you find out what you truly need to know.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
‘Five little ducks went out one day, over the hills and far away. Mother duck said, quack quack quack, but only four little ducks came back…’ So goes the old nursery rhyme. Such things happen, even in the best of broods. But the next day, four ducklings went out and only three returned. As you may recall, by the weekend… well, I don’t want to upset you with a tale of woe, but the moral is vital. We can’t keep repeating mistakes. May’s rare annular eclipse in Gemini invites you to ask, ‘What do I keep doing wrong?’ Once you find out, you can finally fix it.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
When one door closes, another opens. That’s not just wishful thinking; it is the truth. But, if we are standing in front of a door that has just shut in our face, it is hard to get past the sense of rejection. It takes a while before you can bring yourself to look for the door that must have opened elsewhere. Plus, we always want what we think we can’t have. May brings a powerful moment where the Moon blocks the light of the Sun. That’s your clear, cosmic, symbolic promise that what you are losing now is nothing compared to what you are about to gain.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Don’t keep opening the oven door; the cake will never bake if you do that. In your attempt to validate the process that you are going through, you are inadvertently creating more reasons to question it. Nothing in this world is robust enough to withstand continual cross-examination. When a police car pulls up outside our door, we can’t help but feel guilty and wonder what we have done wrong – even when we know we are innocent. May’s rare solar eclipse, suggests an experience of uncharacteristic vulnerability. Don’t accuse yourself; encourage yourself.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
We all like a routine. It reassures us. We also like to know who our friends are – and our enemies. Much as we may dislike encountering someone who annoys us, we get a strange sense of satisfaction from conflict. We define our identities by the people we don’t like, the situations we disapprove of or the causes we refuse to support. As individuals and as nations, we get used to being at odds with one another. But we can break that habit and find a better way. Be willing to embrace a real change in May, and that change will reach out to embrace you.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
They say, ‘What you don’t know can’t harm you.’ How dare they say that? How can they know? Have scientists taken two groups of people, randomly selected from a cross-section of society? Have they kept one group fully informed whilst depriving the other of all access to information? What criteria have they used to assess harm? Honestly! The things they say! Venus turns retrograde in May. You get to make a series of long-overdue discoveries. Ignorance may not have harmed you but enlightenment is soon going to help you, enormously.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
Once upon a time, all great movies were in monochrome. Some of the earliest colour productions would begin in black and white and then suddenly change to produce a moment of high drama. Everything would seem the same, yet different. There would be vivid vibrancy, sparkle and shine where before there was just a uniformity of tone. May brings a repeat of the recent trine between Mars and Pluto. It is now as if the celestial director is employing such an effect on your behalf. The whole of your life is about to spring into new life and a new depth.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
Two wrongs don’t make a right. But two rights can never make a wrong. You are wrestling with a difficult dilemma. It involves ethical issues, emotive topics, controversial scenarios, secrets that may be best kept secret and truths that nobody seems to want to hear. You can’t simply decide to do what seems easiest. May’s rare solar eclipse in your opposite sign enables you to choose a direction you can stick with. It is important to approach the month with an attitude you can be proud of and sure of. Put plainly, it’s wrong for you to do what’s not right.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
All that many young children ever want to eat is ice cream. If their parents refuse to supply them this for breakfast, dinner and supper, are they being mean? People who give us exactly what we want or tell us what we are most keen to hear, are not necessarily the folk who have our best interests at heart. It may well be that they want something from us. Likewise, we must think carefully before we say what will make us popular. Be diplomatic by all means in May, but stay well within the bounds of integrity then the month will be truly good for you.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
When our vehicles get dirty, there’s the car wash. When our clothes grow grubby, there’s the laundry. So where then, can we take our memories when they get mucky? Or must we just allow them to carry on becoming ever more corrupted and confused. We tell ourselves stories about the past and we repeat them so often that we begin to believe they are the gospel truth – the only accurate version of events. You now need to revisit a part of your past. Once you see it differently, you will see vast positive potential in the month that lies ahead of you.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Do you have something to apologise for? Have you dropped a ball, missed a chance, broken a promise or ruined an opportunity? Of course not! It’s funny though how easily we can be persuaded to feel guilty. If a policeman stops us in the street, our first reaction is to think, ‘What have I done?’ We ask ourselves that question, even if we know for a fact that we have robbed no banks. As you move into May, you are feeling edgy and apprehensive at the moment. But why? You have every reason to feel proud and optimistic – as you will soon see.
