Solstice Greetings! If you’re reading this, the world hasn’t ended. So we can stop worrying about the end of the Mayan Calendar. Nor, unless you’re reading this with your eyes shut, using telepathy, has the so-called ‘galactic alignment’ instantly raised us all to a state of elevated consciousness. But then, I’ve long been trying to dampen down the many strange expectations surrounding this particular weekend. I am, though, very happy to raise a few expectations for 2013. It will be one of the happiest years many of us have ever known. And this Christmas won’t be bad either!
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Merry Christmas! All around the world now, people are greeting each other with this phrase as they prepare for the annual feast. Do they mean it? How merry do they actually want each other to be? There is more goodwill around than usual. But it still doesn’t extend as far as bad drivers, noisy neighbours and inconsiderate visitors. We can all still find plenty to be annoyed by. Yet, really, this week, as Mars now prepares to move on, your ability to be forgiving and benign may be just about to reach an all-time high.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
We all become a little luckier at this time of year. Even if our thoughts turn to sources of sadness, they can soon be steered back to more inspiring subjects. Now, here is a cute conundrum: what happens to people who feel more fortunate? They become more fortunate! They make choices that turn out to have pleasing consequences. Jupiter’s alignment to Venus, this Christmas, will bless you with an exuberant mood. Indulge it! You can create an entire festive season’s worth of hope and happiness if you just think positively.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Shhh… don’t tell anyone but let me let you in on a secret. It’s Christmas! Some people are planning big celebrations soon. And you know what? There is no reason why you can’t join in. You don’t need a licence or a qualification in the art of festive merriment. You just need to put aside some of the cares and woes that have recently sapped your confidence. It turns out, this week, that there is something else you don’t need permission for. Reach for what inspires you the most and you may yet connect with it.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Happy everything. Well, almost everything, anyway. Possibly, there are some things that none of us can be happy about but even problems that can’t be solved can at least be postponed. Sometimes, when we put something on a shelf for a while, we discover that we don’t have to bring it back down again. Out of sight becomes out of mind and it stays there. I can’t tell you that this will happen with every awkward issue you put to one side over the coming week, but you will encounter at least one example of such magic at work.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
The shops, as you may have noticed lately, have been full of enticing offers. Though Christmas was never originally intended as a festival for consumers, it soon turned into one. Yet, even in this mad modern world, there are still some things that money can’t buy. Such objects and experiences are worth even more than they ever used to be. It just so happens that, this week, you are going to encounter some delightful reminders of these. Regardless of your financial circumstances, you will soon feel so rich in your heart.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
Is it worth it? All that expense and effort? All those delicate domestic arrangements to be tiptoed around? We go to such trouble for the sake of a few days. Then we breathe out, cry ‘never again’ and promptly start making plans for Christmas the following year. But then, sometimes, it really is just as well that we don’t learn all the lessons that life seemingly wants to teach us. Here, this week, comes another experience that you probably should have grown out of a long time ago. But, it could not be more right for you.
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Theologians love to debate the veracity of the nativity. Was there really a stable? Was there really a star? But erudite intellectuals never gather to discuss the credibility of the Santa story. There is no controversy. Nobody proposes that the tale is real. Now, perhaps we should look at other distinctions between fact and fiction in your life. Where is there a belief so strong, that all evidence to undermine it is being determinedly ignored? Your greatest Christmas gift this year involves an enhanced ability to recognise a wonderful reality.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
You don’t want much for Christmas. Santa need not overload his sleigh with endless gifts and goodies. As far as you are concerned, the only thing that is really worth having is a boon beyond all financial value. You just want someone to start seeing the world from a somewhat different point of view. That would make such a difference and it would dramatically alter your own outlook too. Is such a thing really possible? Interestingly enough, it appears to be! As Mars prepares to leave your sign, you will see the proof of that shortly.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
What would Jesus make of Christmas? It is easy to imagine him saying, ‘So, all this shopping and eating, has something to do with me, does it?’ But then, right now, you are finding it hard enough to understand what Christmas has to do with you. Rarely have you felt less in the mood for festive merriment and seasonal goodwill. The sense that you ‘ought’ to be full of jollity is only making it worse. Now, here is some good news. Over the next few days, you will rediscover your sense of joy and adventure just in time.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
For millions of people around the world, this is a holiday. But not so for those who work in the emergency services or who face pressing needs that make no allowance for the season. You are currently finding it hard to ignore the call of duty. You have obligations that you just can’t ignore, no matter how much tinsel is hanging from the ceiling. I am happy to predict that the pressure is about to ease up. Financially, emotionally and, indeed, at every level, it will soon start to seem as if you do, after all, have a real reason to relax.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Welcome to 2013! I know that it has not yet officially arrived but Mars is about to slip into your zodiac sign, filling you with fresh enthusiasm and energy, enabling you to start making a clean break with aspects of the past that you sorely need to start leaving behind. You really need not wait till January 1 to make your great resolution; you are as ready as you have ever been. It is time to embrace a wonderful change. Here, right now, Christmas or no Christmas, is where your life begins to move on in a wonderful way.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Christmas is traditionally a time for families to get together. Now, we become able to spend time with our relatives and remember, in the process, why we are secretly quite glad that we are normally too busy to see some of them! Tensions arise, conflicts emerge and, if we are not careful, we end up painfully aware of the vast void between ‘how things are supposed to be’ and ‘how they actually are’. Yet despite all that now seems less than ideal in your life, one situation truly is starting to become magical. Enjoy that this week.
