Forecasts for week beginning November 10, 2012.

By Jonathan Cainer

It is possible to have your life changed by a Solar Eclipse without seeing it or even being in a place from which it can be seen. And it is impossible to witness one without having your life changed forever. That’s why a growing community of ‘eclipse chasers’ follow these amazing events around the globe. This week, they’ll head for Auckland, New Zealand or Cairns, Australia. Some will even go as far as Norfolk Island for a longer, fuller immersion. As for the rest of us, life brings the chance to wipe a slate clean and start again.

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
Close your eyes and imagine. How would you like things to be? What changes might you wish for? Keep on allowing yourself to dream. Don’t break the spell by remembering all the reasons why none of this can happen. Ignore what sounds like the voice of realism. That is just pessimism speaking to you in a posh, persuasive, accent. Meanwhile, your inner-optimism, being all nice and polite, is too quick to step aside. The coming powerful total solar eclipse insists that if you trust a positive vision, it can yet come true.

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
This week’s rare, potent, total solar eclipse takes place in the sector of the sky that governs ‘your closest emotional and legal commitments’. As a student astrologer, I remember being a little baffled about why these two seemingly different spheres of interest should come under one heading. I’m older now. I get it! They are both ‘forms of contract’: agreements that you hope to keep forever. Life now asks you to review a deal done long ago. It need not be dropped but it must be constructively renegotiated.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Mercury traditionally rules Gemini. So the fact that this planet is currently retrograde, tells us plenty about the experience that you currently seem to be having. It implies a phase of reflection and review, during which many plans and projects seem to have stalled. Wherever you now feel thwarted or frustrated, don’t just focus on the hope that somehow, soon, there must be a breakthrough. Think instead about how you have wound up in a situation. What has gone wrong? A constructive way ahead can yet be found.

CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
If you are not willing to take a risk, perhaps you are not yet ready to make a gain. This week’s total eclipse, suggests a chance to turn your life around, break a habit, escape a restriction and embrace a fresh possibility. Can such a transformation come into your life without so much of a trace of conflict or compromise? Not really. First, some true courage must be shown. You don’t need to be reckless or foolhardy but you must decide that, if you have truly had enough of something, your actions should echo your feelings.

LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Sometimes, it is only when we get to the edge of the diving board that we know how we feel about leaping. Do you have an option other than to jump bravely into the unknown? Theoretically, you do. Climbing back down won’t be easy but somehow, the eclipse is asking you, ‘Are you really sure about a commitment you are on the verge of keeping?’ If not, it is offering you a viable (if tricky) way to retreat. Be ready for a moment when it seems as if all is lost, followed by another moment in which it is clear that all is found once more.

VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
What is the point of the past – if it is not there so that we can learn something from it? Yet how are we supposed to learn anything at all, if we cannot bear to think about what has happened because memories make us cringe and squirm? A retrograde Mercury now encourages you to rethink a part of your history and, most crucially, with the choices that led on from the experiences that you went through. Has there been an overreaction? It would appear that there is now a much better way to proceed for you.

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
Venus remains in your sign for one more week, which is good. This week’s solar eclipse takes place in the part of your chart that traditionally represents your relationship with money. That’s good too. There may be a few moments during the next few days when you begin to suspect that, perhaps, things are not so good in this area. That’s largely because the symbolism of the eclipse involves a suggestion that something can only get better if it first seems to get worse. Hold on to that idea and trust it.

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
Here comes a total solar eclipse in your sign. Does this symbolise the beginning of the end? Not really. It is best seen as the beginning of a new beginning. You have long been waiting patiently for one process to end. You have grown tired of feeling trapped in a set of circumstances that can seemingly never alter. Now, it becomes clear that change can at long last occur in just the area of life where you had all but given up hope of ever seeing a real improvement. These are truly momentous times and you have nothing to fear from them.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
Neither are you a small cog in a big machine, nor a big fish in a small pond. Indeed, all efforts to establish your importance are misleading and unhelpful. To all intents and purposes, you are the pond itself. You are the machine, too. Or, to put it another way, you matter so much more than you realise. That’s not a reason to act with arrogance this week. But as the solar eclipse now insists, it is definitely a reason for you to start acting with confidence. You simply cannot lose anything that you truly wish to keep hold of.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Current cosmic challenges and opportunities are connected with the need for you to know your limitations. Now, before we go any further, let us consider how you feel when you read that statement. Are you inclined to think, ‘Oh, is he telling me that I must not be so ambitious?’ Well, actually, no. Sometimes, we do ourselves far more harm when we underestimate our abilities. You now see yourself as restricted in an area of life where you have a lot of power and freedom. This week’s eclipse will help you understand that.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
If you pursue one course of action, you will do someone an injustice. Yet, if you prioritise the plan which would be most fair to them, someone else will be at a disadvantage. How are you supposed to choose? And what about your own needs? You can’t satisfy every requirement. Somehow, somewhere, something less than ideal has to occur. But all tricky choices are better made consciously, than from a state of denial or self-justification. If you don’t think your best is going to be good enough, do the best you can anyway.

PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Pisceans, they say, are intuitive. They don’t make plans, they just act on the spur of the moment and have some uncanny way of ending up where they need to be, without really making any great effort. But is that really always the case? You are perfectly capable of determinedly pursuing an objective, as long as you first get yourself sufficiently fired up. Look at what is currently exciting you. Consider how much it means to you. How can you do anything other than give it all you’ve got? If you do, this week, you will succeed.
