This close to the feast, what should a fortune teller say? Expect gifts? Be wary of over-indulgence? We don’t need astrologers to foresee the next few days. That’s partly why, in late December, I tend to focus on folk for whom this season can feel lonely and may require more than tinsel to heal their hurt hearts. The sky, after all, doesn’t know the holidays are here. If it did, it would hardly arrange for Mars to complete a T-square with Uranus and Pluto on Christmas Day itself. But still, we’ll all find a little magic somewhere.
ARIES (March 21 – April 20)
The cosmos, this Christmas, brings an opposition between Mars and Uranus. This might be described as a ding-dong, not so merrily on high. It implies a tense situation that is best addressed with candour. You will need to be honest, although there may come a point past which honesty becomes injury. But what if, in your effort to protect them from a truth that they are not yet ready to hear, you expose yourself to an accusation that you are not yet ready to defend? Try to be delicate and diplomatic for the sake of the festivities.
TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)
Venus now commences a retrograde phase, just as the seasonal festivities get under way. It is important to remember this week, that expectations make a big difference. When we set them too high, we court disappointment. When we pitch them too low, we rob ourselves. We seize the first opportunity we see, on the assumption that it will probably be our only one. Thus, we miss the chance to get something better. It’s now all too easy to misjudge a situation. Coming events will help you to set wiser expectations.
GEMINI (May 22 – June 22)
Imagine being clad in cotton wool – or clanking around in some suit of armour. It would be awkward, but it would afford a lot of protection. Many people daily don the psychological equivalent of such outfits. They wrap their hearts and their heads with many layers of attitude and opinions; all designed to keep life’s raw, emotional edge of uncertainty at bay. To be a Gemini is to be much more exposed. That’s why your hurts hurt so badly. It is also, though, as you will discover this Christmas, why your joys are so intense.
CANCER (June 23 – July 23)
Some people just take life as it comes and do whatever seems easiest. Are they being foolish or wise? That depends on what it is they are accepting. Some factors really deserve to be questioned and challenged. By being a little awkward, we can sometimes get much better results. You can afford to remain relaxed in most areas of life now, but there is one battle that you ought to fight. Prioritise that now, even if it leads to some tension. You will yet bring a difficult matter to a satisfactory conclusion this Christmas.
LEO (July 24 – August 23)
Sometimes, life feels like a tricky trek through a field of mud. Sometimes, it’s a merry dance through a meadow. What makes the difference? It’s not money, as many a miserable millionaire will testify. It’s not love. That’s fine when romance is new, grim when a bond is subject to stress. It’s the existence of hope that makes us want to celebrate… and the apparent absence of it that creates despair. This Christmas, the cosmos offers you hope in abundance. If you want it to last, just be careful what you pin it on.
VIRGO (August 24 – September 23)
A restless mood will not, you will be pleased to hear, last much longer. That sense of constant apprehension or dissatisfaction will slowly start to dissipate as long as you don’t let some misplaced sense of duty inspire you to act on an impulse that is best curbed. An auspicious influence this Christmas, will bring you renewed confidence, increase the extent to which others find you attractive and make it easier for you to find financial opportunity. With all that to look forward to, why should anyone or anything trigger apprehension?
LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)
You have asked enough questions, formed enough theories, checked out enough options, and relived enough old experiences. This Christmas it is time to take action. There may be much more that you want to know, but there is a limit to how much you can find out without actually trying something. Give your best option your best shot. Put your shoulder to the wheel. You won’t find everything easy but, if you put your heart and soul into whatever you now set out to do, you will get a result well worth having.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)
There may be a limit to what you can do, but there is no limit to what you wish you could do! There’s so much that you want to solve and resolve but you have to be careful. You’ll miss an opportunity if you don’t discriminate between what matters and what doesn’t. What’s needed this Christmas, is ingenuity and creativity, sincerity and sensitivity. It’s difficult to summon any of that while you are inclined to force something. As you relax your grip on the wrong goal, you will be able to embrace the right one.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)
People rarely do what they ought to do. They react badly to situations that they should be able to take in their stride. They become defensive about issues that really don’t merit anxiety or concern. When we see others becoming unnecessarily upset, we do our best to reassure them. It is never so easy, though, to compensate for our own fears and foibles. Don’t accept all criticisms this Christmas week. Do, though, listen with sensitivity to someone who is only sincerely trying to offer you their wisdom and support.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 20)
Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to make things happen, our efforts are thwarted. Circumstances seemingly conspire to prevent us from making progress. People become uncooperative. ‘Reasons why not’ emerge at every turn. Then sometimes, for no apparent reason, these obstacles evaporate, and suddenly it seems as if anything and everything is possible. This Christmas you are now going through just such a joyous process of change. A cloud is lifting. A much resented objection is being overruled.
AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 19)
Imagine a pauper pushing their possessions around town in a cart. A kind millionaire sends a motorbike to take them to a bank where they can help themselves to gold. The pauper refuses to board the bike because they cannot bring the cart. If you now see yourself as the pauper, your fixed ideas as the cart and this week’s excellent, if unplanned for, opportunity as the millionaire’s motorbike, you’ve got the analogy… and the gist of my advice. Have the wisdom to recognise a positive possibility this Christmas.
PISCES (February 20 – March 20)
Sometimes, everything falls wonderfully into place. We don’t have to force this to happen – indeed, when we try, it stops. We just ourselves in the right place at the right time and we see magic all around. But at other times… well, let’s not dwell on that. All you need to know this Christmas is that you are never going to be far from a convenient coincidence. You just have to find a way to recognise it. Think of yourself as a lucky soul, being offered great gifts by a kind cosmos. To bring these nearer, just relax.
